Description: Stunning green leaves with red underbellies. Shiso or Britton or Perilla as its also called is a leafy herb in the mint family. The flavour is a mix of mild mint and basil with hints of clove and cumin making it perfect for both savoury and sweet applications in the kitchen.

 

Key Attributes: Both leaves and flowers are edible and makes a gorgeous ornamental plant

 

How to Use?:

  • Use leaves as a wrap for a vegetable spring roll
  • Flavour pairs well with fish, rice, noodles and cucumbers
  • Use in salads or in green seasoning mix
  • Use as garnish for cocktails
  • Infuse into hot or iced teas

Soil Type: Medium rich to sandy soil

 

Growing Conditions: Sun

 

Planting Depth: Plant seeds extremely shallow & cover very lightly with soil.

 

Days to Germination: Germinates in 7 - 21 days. Light is required for germination.

 

Planting Distance: Direct seeding into the final grow area is recommended. Sow 1 - 2 seeds per inch, at 6" to 12" apart in rows that are 18" apart

 

Days to Maturity: 80 - 85 days

 

Height when Mature: 18" - 30" 

 

Harvest: Pick individual leaves as soon as the plant becomes established.

 

Succession Planting: For a continuous supply, sow new seeds 6 months.
