Description: Rosa Bianca is an Italian, heirloom variety with pink to violet and white streaks. The fruit is large and round at 5" - 7" diameter. The flavour is mild and very creamy.

 

Key Attributes: Very well adapted to warm climates

 

How to Use?:

  • Marinate in herbs and grill
  • Make a melongene and parmesan cheese casserole
  • Stuff with sauteed veges and bake
  • Make a Melongene Choka or try Baba Ganoush , a middle eastern dip
  • Try Ratatouille, a French dish made up of tomato, zucchini and Eggplant slices

 

Life Cycle: Annual

 

Soil Type : Fertile, well-draining soil with a pH of 6.2 - 6.8. NB: Be careful of nitrogen toxicity. Too much nitrogen may result in a large, bushy plant that may appear healthy but bear only a few fruit bodies.

 

Growing Conditions: Full sun. Prune plant to encourage growth and staking may be necessary to keep the fruit upright.

 

Planting Depth: Plant at 1/4" deep

 

Days to Germination: Germinates in 7 - 14 days

 

Planting Distance: Sow 3 - 5 seeds per cell or direct plant 18" apart in rows 30" - 36" apart.

 

Days to Maturity: 73 days

 

Height when Mature: 24 inches

 

Harvest: Cut fruit with knife or scissors when they reach the desired size. Harvest fruits regularly to encourage a large yield.

 

Succession Planting: For a continuous supply, sow new seeds every 3 weeks.
