Description: Lemon balm is a green, leafy herb that is a cousin to mint. It has an amazing, lemony aroma and flavour. It is a must have for all herb gardens!

 

How to Use?:

  • Use fresh in salads
  • Make hot lemon tea
  • Infuse into iced tea
  • Use as garnish for cocktails
  • Use fresh as the flavour and colour deteriorates when dried

 

Life Cycle: Perennial

 

Soil Type: Moderately fertile, well-draining soil

 

Growing Conditions: Full sun with consistently moist soil. Prune prior to flowering to encourage growth of foliage.

 

Planting Depth: Plant at 1/4" deep

 

Days to Germination: Germinates in 7 - 10 days

 

Planting Distance: Sow 2 -3 seeds in cells to germinate for about 6 to 8 weeks. Tamp soil lightly. These seeds need light to germinate. Transplant when the seedlings have 4 true leaves with 12" spacing in rows 2" apart.

 

Days to Maturity: 70 days

 

Height when Mature: 18" - 26" 

 

Harvest: Pick individual leaves as soon as the plant becomes established and cut entire stalks as the plant becomes larger.

 

Succession Planting: For a continuous supply, sow new seeds every year.
