Description: The leaves, stalks and flowers of Borage are edible and all parts of the plant have a mild and refreshing cucumber like flavour. A large plant will bear hundreds of small edible flowers, mostly blue with some pink. Long harvest period. Borage flowers also attract beneficial bees and butterflies into your garden.

How to Use?:

  • Add fresh flowers to salads or use to garnish cold drinks and desserts.
  • Freeze flowers in ice cubes for a decorative drink
  • Chop young leaves finely before use

Soil Type: Grows well in average & even poor-quality soils.

 

Growing Conditions: Full Sun.

 

Planting Depth: Plant at 1/4" to 1/2" deep

 

Days to Germination: Germinates in 7 - 14 days

 

Planting Distance: The preferred method of sowing is directly into the outdoor grow bed/container and at 3 seeds per foot in rows that are 24" apart. Thin to 12" spacing for individual plants. Transplanting is not recommended.

 

Days to Maturity: 50 - 60 days

 

Height when Mature: 18" - 30" 

 

Harvest: For leaves, pick young leaves once the plant has become established. Once the flowers begin to form, use a sharp tool to cut flowers and dry under moderate heat and good air circulation.

 

Succession Planting: For a continuous supply, sow new seeds every year.
